West Coast Living

The beach-fringed land between Flic en Flac and Le Morne is known to most Mauritians as Riviere Noire (Black River). One of the island’s last coastal areas to witness development, this constellation of townships has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years. Despite the sudden appearance of modern structures, Black River offers a more active yet quieter experience – resorts are few and far between and you have a choice of sea and mountains when it comes to getting out and exploring. Sensational hiking, scenic shorelines, top-notch shing and interesting historical relics are all within arm’s reach.

Tamarin, Black River is located on the west coast of Mauritius. Tamarin has developed into a popular coastal town, both for Mauritians and a growing expatriate community who have chosen to make Tamarin home. The west coast has a fantastic weather pattern and is sheltered from the winter rains and winds.

A wide range of restaurants, leisure facilities and a large gym and sports facility add to the offering of the region. For sports enthusiasts the region has wonderful gorges for walking, running and cycling. The region offers a wide range of water sports including surfing, diving, windsurfing and kiting. Only a 15 minutes drive from le Morne Brabant, home to the regions best kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing on the island.
